Christmas Edition 2011

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DENIED BAPTISM
Adopt-A-Child‟s Newsletter reports that in July in Albania, many new believers were baptised in the villages and in Au-gust the “Envision” team had the privilege of praying over each of them and presenting their certificates. Sadly around half who wanted to be baptised were denied permission by their Muslim parents, but the Lord knows their hearts and will be watching over them.
The Evangelism team continues with all-round development of the disciples, using many innovative ways to nurture these young Christians. The weekly English classes are very popu-lar, as are the annual football and volley ball competitions which bring together youngsters from the different villages.
Meanwhile in Guatemala Adopt-A-Child reports that it has been a wonderful year for Groups - Construction Teams, Youth Groups, Clinical Teams and Adult Ministry Groups. Visiting Groups are essential to the growth and progress of LWI/AAC‟s ministry objectives.
They say that March is always a high water mark month in Guatemala as it‟s the month of their once a year Medical/Dental/Evangelistic Campaign (this is over and above the ongoing clinics that are always available for the children). This year with God‟s help they were able to see 2,560 patients during 6 days, which was 2,046 Medical visits, 514 Dental visits plus they saw 62 people give their lives to Christ!
RENOVATION HAS BEGUN
The Llanelli „Nations‟ Team in South Wales, report that St. Elli, their new building is being renovated with new wiring etc. It is a 20 bedroom house with only two working bath-rooms which as they say, is not adequate for up to 45 residents, so they are installing 6 showers and three more toilets with plans for more later. The Lee family, Kyoodae and Bridget with their 4-year old son Noah and their yet-to-be-born baby, are ready to move in to help run the place. Bridget has had experience of this before and is already enjoying finding commercial kitchen equipment at bargain prices. „Nations‟ also report that the present fire-escape does not reach the top floor and is too old to repair so they are having a new one made.
They are praising God and sending thanks for the short-term loans which are all paid off! One of the long-term loans is also paid off! Of course, they still need a lot more finance to complete and equip the house. .
FRONTLINE NATIONS
Eleven trainees went on exploratory expeditions after “Celebration for the Nations” this August. As a result some of them have confirmed a calling: four to the Middle East, one to France and one to North Africa. The “Celebration Mobile Team” had a very successful time, both in Llanelli and further afield. They visited a number of local schools and also spent time in North Wales and Ireland.
MINISTERING WITH HEALING
Philip and Margaret Evans of The Oasis Church, in Beaumaris, North Wales, say the doors continue to open and the Lord has led them to focus on evangelism and teaching and to this end they have produced a 4 CD Teaching Set entitled “Healing the Sick” based on a seminar taught recently in Beaumaris. If you would like a copy of the set please let them know. Philip reports: “Next February our friends Lucas and Esther Wafula are arranging a Gospel and Healing crusade in Nairobi, Kenya for several days. The Ken-yans have suffered a lot over recent years with corruption in government, drought and tribal conflicts, so we value your prayers as we seek to present the claims of Christ and the Gospel and for finance as the cost is £4,000. Later in Febru-ry we go to Nepal again for teaching at seminars and a Gospel and Healing crusade”.
Philip and Margaret have been going to Nepal since 1993 but the last two years yielded the most fruit. The political situation is such that outdoor crusades can now be held and they value our prayers that it will stay that way for many years. Each year they go to a different part of the country where churches have been planted and last year they met some men who had become Christians during the 1960‟s. Philip says, “This made us realise that because they had laid down their lives and had suffered much persecution, the way for us has been made easier”. They had suffered much with beatings and imprisonments but also had seen many miracles. One of the major factors attributed to the church growth is the abundance of healing miracles. TYPHOON DEVASTATION
Pam & Martin Scott in the Philippines report that things are beginning to get back to normal after Typhoon Pedring devastated the area and hit the school badly. Families in the area also suffered, with corn fields smashed and no hope of recovery, and only one goat surviving out of a herd of six. Pam and Martin say that the Filipinos are a very deter-mined people and have an amazing ability to “bounce back”. Their faith is strong and with the Lord‟s help they will over-come!If you can help or for more information email: mrtns9@aol.com
CRUSADE IN SOROTI
David and Jacqui Dowdy, missionaries in Uganda, report that they recently held a conference to just under 100 delegates, excluding children, in Soroti on „Ministering as the Body of Christ‟. Their basic message was that everyone has a function in the Body and should be fulfilling it. Jacqui taught both morning and afternoon sessions as well as preaching at two of the three crusades. They were joined by their friends and in the evenings they all went to the nearby trading centre and held crusades. Despite interruption by the rains, Jacqui preached on the Prodigal Son to a crowd of over 700 people and 320 names were recorded of those who wanted to commit their lives to Christ while others came forward for prayer for healing and deliverance. One man who had been deaf for some time and had started to go mad because of his hearing loss, was suddenly healed during the worship and testified to the fact the following Sunday!
David, Jacqui and friends then went to Entebbe where Jacqui preached. Despite being very tired they were aware of the Lord working strongly within them.
DIVINE INTERVENTION
Wonderful news from Dondie and Chrissy in the Philippines. Jersen, their adopted son, has improved so much that they have been able to transfer him from hospital to the CRU at the Helping Hands Ministry, where Claire Henderson is so much more experienced at handling this kind of situation.
Chrissy says, “ There was absolutely no medical explanation for his improvement. It truly was Divine intervention. It was wonderful to see him so happy back in the CUR, no bruises, no bleeding, no oxygen, just a good appetite and a nice smile. He is still on pain management medication and we are praying for his healing to be complete.”
Please continue to pray and stand alongside Dondie and Chrissy and help in whatever way the Lord leads you. For more information or to encourage them email: chrissyper-illo@gmail.com
JESUS HAS DONE IT AGAIN
Suzanne Pillans of “Step Out In Faith” in Oxford, UK writes: “Through your support Jesus has done it again! All 995 orphans have been fed in Zambia and Pakistan. New Zealand partners have raised enough funds to drill wells to supply water to 3 orphanages. They also sent David to set up organic gardens in all 4 orphanages on the land donated by the local chief. This is the first step to get the orphanages self-sufficient.”
Step Out In Faith Bible School, Lagos, has planted new Bible Schools and sent the graduates all over Nigeria to plant new churches, even to the far North, with good results.
They had a wonderful 3-day retreat at Standlake Ranch. It was a small but in depth retreat. Many were able to receive one-to -one counselling and prayer from Suzanne and because the group was small, everyone was able to enter the prayer tabernacle together! They will be holding more retreats in December and January suggested donations of £75 for dormitory or £85 for twin bedrooms, meals included. Phone 01865 300099 or email: wpillans@aol.com for further information.
NBTC TRIP TO GHANA
John & Sandra Levy of Nehemiah Bible Training Centre based at The Oasis (Headquarters of IGO), North Wales, report that the wedding of their son Robin to Nicola, was a great success for everyone concerned. On their return home, John had only one week to get ready to head out to Ghana. John reports: “I felt impressed to share on “How to Overcome Problems in Your Church” as the theme for the seminars. Many of these seminars were well at-tended by at least 20-30 pastors who felt that the teaching sessions were of great benefit to them. Very early one Sunday morning, in a place called Legon, I was taken to the University of Ghana where I was given just five minutes to speak about the NBTC. There were about 1,400 stu-dents present, with the result that several students desired to enrol for the course. When that was finished, I was taken back to Accra to Osmond Owusu‟s church in Jamestown, only to be told, much to my surprise, that I was the main speaker for that morning. With no Bible, no notes and nothing in mind to say, a Bible was thrust into my hand and I was told, „You have 3 minutes to find what you want to speak about this morning.‟ A quick prayer to the Lord, I felt to go to Nehemiah chapter 1, where I expounded the Word for about a half hour, the Holy Spirit giving me the ability to share. Many people expressed afterwards how blessed they were by what they had heard.” John conducted more seminars in the week that followed, using the theme taken from Nehemiah chapters 4-7, that the Holy Spirit had given him while preparing during the preceding months. Each day the seminars were well attended by around a hundred people and by the feedback John received, many felt it was the Word they had needed to hear. John says, “This was music to my ears as I had prayed that the Word that was on my heart to share would be beneficial for those in leadership.” John headed home with a desire to go back again the following year, hopefully with a companion, as Sandra did not go with him this year. Whoever does go with John will need to like chicken, because for 13 days he ate chicken with everything!
HEALING ROOMS MINISTRY
Christopher Sears, Senior Minister of His Place Community Church in St. Leonard's on Sea, reports that it has been a busy year for them. They have hosted a Christian Theatre Company for a production of the play “ClerErrors” to raise funds for “Hope Trust Hastings” an inter church charity of which Christopher is Vice Chairman.
They run a soup kitchen twice a week for people with addiction problems, where they share food, friendship and the Gospel and have seen lives turned around.
Christopher and his wife Margaret, travelled to California for a Conference at Bill Johnson‟s church, Bethel in Redding. They also arranged for a team to visit their church to train them in the Healing Rooms ministry. They now have a good connection with Bethel, Redding, and their congregation have moved into a new dimension in the Holy Spirit. Christopher says, “We have now set aside our side hall as Holywell Prayer Centre and Healing Rooms and open to the public every Saturday from 10am-12 noon. We now have our own team who minister in the Healing Rooms ministry and we have seen some amazing healings there. We have also grown our own team of intercessors in the last year and have had six different people move into our town to become part of our team at His Place.”
Christopher is also part of the town wide leadership of 24/7 Prayer which meets weekly and they were both invited to be part of a group of 50 intercessors from across the County to meet together in London outside the Palace to pray for our Queen and our Nation.
NEW DOORS OPENING
Wayne O‟Leary in Tewkesbury, UK, states that there have been some new openings for him. He has started teaching at New College in Birmingham and is part of the New Testament faculty and team one afternoon a week which he says is a real privilege. The College does full and part time courses for students of different abilities. They do not require students to have any qualifications in order to study with them and all may attend no matter what their Christian experience or ability. All the qualification you need is that there is a call on your life.
Wayne is also going into Eastern Europe and teaching in Bible Schools. He was in Moldova a few months ago and he says it was great seeing what God is doing out there, especially in the Bible Colleges.
MASS CHOIR BREAKING RELIGIOUS BARRIERS
Terry Shelton and his wife Olive from Lincolnshire, say they have had a tough couple of years with bad health, a lot of pain and operations. However, they praise God for a stable year allowing on-going ministry in their local area and through and by God‟s grace, seeing His Kingdom being extended and strengthened. Terry says that he and Olive are part of a new mass choir formed to be used in revival work along-side a prayer revival group that is being wonderfully encouraged by the Lord in that in the Borough of Boston, that has 57 various churches, all but two have joined wholeheartedly in being part of the prayer revival programme. Terry says, “We are having real time Godly experiences in the breaking down of religious barriers and an on-going setting free of the saints locally into the Kingdom business. Individuals and small groups are being drawn in particular to the repentance revival all night meetings, many being led of the Spirit to fasting and praying. Recently we as a group of God‟s children experienced His Word being read from Genesis to Revelation out loud in the centre of Boston, (outside), through a 48 hour period, what a time of blessing!” This news and other Kingly business on his travels into north and west Norfolk has brought many enquiries and interest and Terry says, “Let‟s see what God has in store”. They have also recently purchased a holiday home at Hunstanton in which they have Godly “chill out” times but they feel it will also be an outfield base for His works!
Ron and Margaret say, “It was indeed for us an unforgettable event, a very humbling experience which the Lord so graciously crowned with fifteen decisions for Christ. Praise the Lord!”
REVIVAL IN SHEFFIELD
Melvin Banks visited Sheffield for the first time in over 40 years. Sponsored by a young new church just over one year old, the RCCG parish, “JOY” Assembly hosted the revival meetings. Filmed for Sky TV Channel 596 “Believe”, it went out to potentially thousands of viewers. Melvin says, “Real miracles happened. A man deaf and dumb since birth was prayed for and was instantly cured. He could hear everything and started to learn how to talk. He returned the next day with many friends, amazed at his cure! He could now talk and hear, he said to a gripped audience, „It grows stronger by the hour!‟. An English Bishop ran up the aisle pain-free after many years with a Prolapsed Disc, it was astonishing to see the miracles of Jesus. The large Warehouse had gradually filled with 240 visitors and 150 filled in enquiry salvation decision cards. Soon Muslim taxi drivers, who had not known there was a church there, did a thriving business ferrying in the sick for healing! A lovely witness to them”.
Melvin says the city has been stirred, it was Sheffield‟s great-est hour and this mighty impact on this city centre was due to your financial gifts.
DROP-IN CENTRE NEEDS CHRISTIAN WORKER
David Vignaux and his wife Maureen of Freedom Faith Ministries International in Norwich, report that they see daily blessings in the Lord as they continue to preach the Gospel and fellowship with those who go into the Drop-In Centre at 148 Magdalen Street, praying for their particular needs. Likewise, they pray and bless those who go in on a regular basis that they will go on their way rejoicing. There are many problems of depression and alcohol related problems in the area and they are still looking for Christian workers who are willing and have a heart for what they are doing. They open two days a week but say it would be wonderful to add another day during the week, so that more people can hear the Word, find a Saviour, a Brother, a Lord and a Friend.
David and Maureen are despatching Braille books to the mission churches and schools in Lahore, Pakistan through Pastor Elisha in Youhanabad and FFM are also involved with 22 churches in India which the team visits to minister and encour-age. ETHIOPIAN ADVENTURE
Gerald Gotzen from Torquay, Devon, UK, was accompanied by his friend Budel Dawid while visiting the Somali refugee camps in Ethiopia and meeting with secret believers. They encountered isolated villages from the Yibir Community and received such a welcome, with the nominal adherence to Islam and not a mosque in sight. According to their traditions they claim Jewish descent. Gerald says it is really an open door for the Gospel.
Gerald also had an amazing Medical Mission in Gondar with Jewish Voice Ministries when thousands of patients were treated. He also met up with Micha Feldman from Israel. Formerly, he was the director for the Jewish Agency in Ethiopia and the co-ordinator of Operation Shavuot 1991. He actually visited the Medical Outreach and was truly impressed.
The “Last Days” Conference in Addis Ababa on the eve of Yom Kippur was attended by nearly 1,500 mainly young people. The Exodus Choir was leading the worship.
Arrangements have been made for the printing of 20,000 copies of the Gospel of John in the Somali language. This project is from the Every Home Crusade in Northern Ireland. Gerald also states that through Media Serve Ministries approximately 50,000 Bibles in Amharic for the Orthodox Christians and for the Moslem people will be dispatched by ship to Ethiopia just before Christmas. A church in Shanghai, China, has made a generous contribution of over £10,000 towards this enterprise!
Gerald asks for our prayers especially for the Somali Christians who are experiencing persecution and even martyrdom.
YEAR OF ACCELERATION
Brian and Meryl in South Wales report that it has been another tremendous year for them, with ministry at Swansea Prison and various local churches and chapels, with new doors opening again this year. Ministry in their home church, Elim City Temple, has also developed in a greater way with them being asked to head up one of the 13 or so „life groups‟ scattered around the Swansea area which they feel is a great privilege. They have been encouraged at the bi-monthly Healing Clinic held at the church, where anyone can go for prayer and they still get people going in off the street as well as folk from various churches.
Meryl continues, “In July, Brian and I were invited to head up the Ministry Team at Celebrations for the Nations at Llenlli, with Gail Dixon. It was truly wonderful as about 20 different nations were present at the gathering, folk from North & South Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Israel, Germany as well as France and the UK. It is so precious to see the Lord meeting the needs of these beautiful people who are so hungry for the Lord. Language is no barrier in the Holy Spirit! This is a season of acceleration for us and we are so excited, it is such a tremendous blessing to see Father‟s Business expanding more and more.”
Brian and Meryl also comment on the unusual seasons this year with flowers and fruit being ready early and even the grey geese arriving in July instead of late September. They say “God is speaking so clearly. First in the natural, then the spiritual.” They believe we have been in a preparation season but are now in a season of acceleration, not only in this country but in the nations of the world, and that the Watchmen on the towers are being stirred by what they see and the Lord wants us to be aware of the times and the seasons just like the sons of Issachar.
JOY, JOY & MORE JOY
Sue Judd in North Yorkshire, UK, writes that the fourth Joy24/7‟ event was held at the Oasis, North Wales, (IGO HQ) during October with eight women joining the team. Sue says, “I was truly blessed by the teamwork of my friends Jo Swain, Judith Smith (catering) and Dave Childs (worship). We explored the JOY of our Lord, through fun, laughter, celebrating and feasting. We led different sessions looking at different Biblical themes of giving and receiving, thankfulness, blessing and praise, obedience and holiness, forgiveness, servant-hood and strength, principles based around Nehemiah 8:10, “The JOY of the Lord is our strength” and John15. Each had an opportunity to be alone with God, some sought the hills, some the beach and some the „sacred space‟, no one went away untouched by the Holy Spirit. We have shared hilarity and rested in calm delight. All can say they have done things this weekend that they have never done before.”
“We continually give thanks for the fellowship on Sunday morning. Jo blessed us with the message coming from the He-brew names of God. As we gave out to our guests it cannot go unnoticed that God gave back to us and we were doubly blessed.”
“On returning home, three folk shared testimony. We are all still laughing and smiling from ear to ear and Jo and I pray that each has found something new in their relationship with God. What a faithful God we have!”
CHILDREN’S LIVES REALLY ARE CHANGED
Claire Henderson of Helping Hands Healing Hearts Ministries Philippines Incorporated, reports that after a rough pregnancy and baby Noah David being very ill just after his birth, he is now doing well and growing stronger al-though he still needs our prayers.
Both Baguio and Olongapo CRU‟s have had very busy years. At any one time there are around 15 children living in each and it really is a miracle that they have been able to house and nurse these kids back to health. Funds have been down due to the recession in the UK, but Claire says it breaks her heart to turn down a cry of help from a mother who can no longer feed her child or buy the medicine he needs to survive. “It kills me to see the hopelessness in their eyes and not be able to offer them tangible hope, but I can only do it with your help. This year you have saved hundreds of lives. You have given hope and you have been a part of families coming to Christ.” Marisa says that the Baguio CRU has been a lifeline for so many kids who couldn‟t have made it otherwise.
Claire says one of the highlights of the year was the celebration of Melanie‟s 4th birthday. “Who would have thought that the little runt of a baby with no hands, no feet and no mouth would ever survive and turn into the little princess/diva that she is! Since her surgery she speaks so well, and after her cleft palette is fixed her speech will become even clearer. She is so smart and so independent. It‟s amazing for me to think that if Helping Hands hadn‟t taken her into CRU she would have been dead already. What a joy to know that Melanie is thoroughly enjoying her life because we were able to make it possible. We were only able to do that because of your support for her daily needs so thank you to everyone who gave.” Of course, Melanie is only one child out of so many heart breaking stories that come to Claire. Some do die, but they go to the Lord knowing they were loved and special and they know all about Jesus and where they were going.
Claire has been offered a place on the Free Port base to re-house the CRU Olongapo. They will only pay the monthly utility bills but no rent. It‟s in a lush forest area beside a hospital so it should be a perfect environment to recover in. The Green Pastures team from Ballymena are going to help get the place knocked into shape and they will use the money raised by the amazing Scottish team who have recently visited.. If it works, then Claire‟s hope is to transform the current city based CRU into an orphanage which would house around 15 kids who have passed through CRU but have no home to go back to!
LOTS OF GOOD CHANGES
Lesley Gomez of LAMA House in the Philippines, writes that there are lots of changes at LAMA, all good. Brent went home to Kalinga and they found a concerned policeman who wants to  take him on and who apparently took care of him before he went to Lesley‟s. He is a slightly calmer Brent, so maybe it will work. Fidel is on a ship in Romblon which cost a bit to put him there but they pray he will get work as a Seaman soon. He is very proud to have come this far. Joel went home to Manila after they found his mother and he calls often. Armand went home to Mom. Wendell ran away after a fight with Richbert about a chess set, (Richbert‟s pride and joy), he spent several days on the street, his father is a drunk and his mother a prostitute so not a lot of care going on there, but he is back with them now. Lesley says “Please pray for him, I see a lot of potential in him but he has missed a lot of school and can‟t read well so gets frustrated. In church though, he sits attentively and listens to every word.”
Lesley and Peter have rented a house near their own for four thousand a month, in a nice compound, with a curfew, for the older boys to live, as Ambaracao, where the older boys home is located at present, is too far away from the colleges and fares are expensive. The boys will be Gener, Jonar, Jerome and Mark for now. The DSWD is all about moving the boys „out and on‟, and its good if it works. So far it seems to be working for the ones they have moved.
Lesley herself, has been in hospital with dengue fever, but home now. Raul is to have a second opinion on his diagnosis of grade 3 cancer and if the same, will have to start chemotherapy which means 6 sessions costing approx £600 each session! Lesley‟s son, Simon also needs a lot of prayer.
A PLACE OF REFUGE
Kim Laverty and her husband Derek of Open Door Ministries in Southern Ireland, say that their Charity Shop, “The Open Door Store”, is run commercially as a successful working business but it has become so much more in ministry terms. For many it is a place where they find a purpose and role by volunteering a few hours to help within it and for others it is an outlet where they can display and sell their home-crafted goods. Kim says, “Most importantly the shop has become known as a place of refuge during the week where those who need a hot drink or a listening ear can come and be encouraged. We are thankful for the good quality second hand clothes, shoes, jewellery books and bric-a-brac which continue to be donated to us on a daily basis.”
In 2008 The Open Door Ministries opened their second school in the town of Bellanton. This is a school where approximately 165 children aged between 4 and 13 attend on a daily basis. This is run by sponsorship of each individual child for a low cost of £6 per month and currently they have around half of these children sponsored. The school was progressing very well until an earthquake completely destroyed everything at the beginning of January 2010. Thankfully none of the children were harmed and now they have been able to start rebuilding the school premises the total cost of which is £49,000.
WELCOME TO PARADISE
Clive and Ann Read in Spain, state that they are still producing the Spanish-language version of “The Word For Today” each quarter. Clive also says, “We were greatly blessed when a family we have known for almost 25 years brought their new baby Grandson to the church so he could be healed, as he was deaf and blind.” The new Councillors in the Town Hall told Clive that they needed a “Welcome Pack” to give to potential home buyers and business investors, for the opening of the new „Foreigner‟s Office‟. Clive created a Directory of “What is Where” in Javea and gave them the first 20 copies for consideration. They rejected the title “Welcome To Paradise” and also said they could not use it because as well as a formal Directory, it also contained his comments gained over 25 years of living there. However, having invested so much time in its compilation, Clive and Ann decided to update and publish it each month as their “Church Magazine” and print 1,000-2,500 copies each month, distributed through the three Tourist Offices.
Regarding the Church, Clive says, “Our congregation has been hit by a great deal of illness, and some precious folk have passed into Glory, others returning to the UK. Income dropped but we were greatly blessed when the Spanish family that own our new premises offered to reduce the rent (unheard of in Spain) by 50% because we were such good tenants.”Clive and Ann continue to work and pray for unity among the brethren and congregations locally, but most prefer to plough their own furrows. Ann, Clive and JeannieB send their greetings for Christmas and New Year to all the IGO folk who remember them. For more information email: clive@mercuryin.es
SHEDDING LIGHT IN A DARK PLACE
It was a great pleasure to have Russ, Linda and Luke Humphries, over here from Guatemala, to minister to us at The Oasis Christian Centre in North Wales, (H.Q. of IGO). They shared about the violence, the shootings which happen weekly, sometimes daily, the earthquake tremors and the poverty. They work with the indigenous people who are the „lowest of the low‟ in their society; living in one room with a tin roof, it gets very cold at night after a hot day and of course there is no such thing as central heating. There is a lot of Occult and superstitions and worshipping of foreign gods. When the Catholic Church came they allowed the Mayan‟s to worship their gods in the church! So Russ, Linda and Luke are teaching about the Blood of Jesus and shedding the Light of the Gospel in this very dark place. They are em-bracing the Indigenous culture and Linda dresses the same way to honour the women, as women are nothing in their culture and when left without a husband, there is no aid for them nor any help to feed their children
